Wake up, He is risen!

Social Distance Worship at Easter (Resurrection Sunday), April 12, 2020 | Mark 16:14-20

Social Distance Worship [SDW] is not a livestream, but a liturgy that can be followed from the comforts of your home, or any other place beyond the sanctuary, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This liturgy features prayers, Bible readings and recordings of a sermon and worship songs from our regular services. Each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. (CET) we will post a new SDW liturgy to our website, and you can find today’s liturgy on this page.

I. Easter Greeting

II. Opening

(Listen in silent meditation or sing along)

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord!
Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His name!

Jesus is Lord of all the earth;
He is the King of creation.

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord!
Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His name!

Spread the Good News o’er all the earth;
Jesus has died and has risen.

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord!
Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His name!

We have been crucified with Christ;
Now we shall live forever.

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord!
Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His name!

Come, let us praise the Living God;
Joyfully sing to our Savior.

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord!
Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His name!

III. Adoration

Prayer of Adoration

O Holy God, I bring to You my thanks and praise, and with my brothers and sisters around the world I worship You for all Your works. You have washed away our sins, through Jesus Christ the Paschal Lamb. You have made the darkness flee, through Jesus Christ the Light of light. You have set the captors free, through Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace. And You have trampled death by death, through Jesus Christ the Lord of Lords. To Him, to You, and to the Holy Spirit be all blessing and glory and honor forever. Amen.

Song of Adoration (Holy God, We Praise Your Name)

Holy God, we praise Your name;
Lord of all we  bow before You;
All on earth You scepter claim,
All in heaven above adore You.

Infinite Your vast domain,
Everlasting is Your reign.

Hark the glad celestial hymn
Angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and Seraphim
In unceasing chorus praising,

Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
“Holy, Holy, Holy Lord.”

Lo! the apostolic train
Joins Your sacred name to hallow;
Prophets swell the glad refrain,
And the white robed martyrs follow.

And from morn to set of sun,
Through the Church the song goes on.

Holy Father, Holy Son,
Holy Spirit, Three we name You;
While in essence only One,
Undivided God we claim You,

And adoring bend the knee,
While we praise the mystery.

IV. Confession

Prayer of Confession

O Risen Christ, I confess to You with all my brothers and sisters that I have sometimes been like the disciples who met Your resurrection with unbelief. Though I know within my mind that You are truly risen, I sometimes live with a hardened heart as if You did not leave the tomb. Lord, in Your mercy, give to me Your loving heart and help me with my unbelief that all might see Your life in me. Your life which knows no end, and breaks the power of sin and death. And Your life which raises us that we might know the peace of God. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.

(Confess in Silence)

Song of Confession (Dona Nobis Pacem)

Dona nobis pacem, pacem.
Dona nobis pacem.

*Translation: Grant us peace.

Confession of Forgiveness

(Read this aloud)

I bless the Lord Who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let Your Holy One see corruption.

You make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence there is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Song of Forgiveness (All Must Be Well)

Through the love of God our Savior, all will be well
Free and changeless is His favor, all is well,

Precious is the blood that healed us
Perfect is the grace that sealed us

Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us
All must be well

Though we pass through tribulation, all will be well
Ours is such a full salvation, all is well,

Happy still in God confiding
Fruitful if in Christ abiding

Steadfast through the Spirit’s guiding
All must be well

We expect a bright tomorrow, all will be well
Faith can sing through days of sorrow, all is well,

On our Father’s love relying
Jesus every need supplying

Yes, in living or in dying
All must be well

Through the love of God our Savior, all will be well
Free and changeless is His favor, all is well,

Precious is the blood that healed us
Perfect is the grace that sealed us

Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us
All must be well

V. Message

Scripture Reading (Mark 16:14-20)

1Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and He rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those [the women] who saw Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

19 So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

VI. Thanksgiving

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Lord of all life and power, Who through the mighty resurrection of Your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in Him. Grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to You in Jesus Christ, may reign with Him in glory; to Whom with You and the Holy Spirit be all praise and honor, glory and might, both now and in all eternity. Amen.

Song of Thanksgiving (Amen, Amen)

Amen,
Amen,
Amen, Amen, Amen!

See the little baby (Amen,)
Lying in a manger (Amen,)
On Christmas morning. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

See Him at the Temple (Amen,)
Talking to the Elders (Amen,)
How they marveled at His wisdom. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

See Him at the seaside (Amen,)
Preaching and healing (Amen,)
The blind and feeble. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

Marching in Jerusalem (Amen,)
Over palm branches (Amen,)
In pomp and splendor. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

See Him in the garden (Amen,)
Praying to His Father (Amen,)
In deepest sorrow. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

Then they crucified Him (Amen,)
Jesus our Savior (Amen,)
And He rose on Easter. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

Hallelujah (Amen,)
He died to save us (Amen,)
And He lives forever. (Amen, Amen, Amen!)

VII. Closing

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever.

Amen.
